At Arctic Cold Storage, we’re proud to offer advanced cold storage and warehousing, but we also offer cross-docking. Not entirely sure what cross-docking is, or what its value might be to you? It’s completely different from warehousing, and is an ideal solution to meet the needs of our customers with time-sensitive shipments, and those who require the utmost in terms of delivery freshness.
In terms of process, it’s easy to understand cross-docking. It’s essentially nothing more than removing products from one truck and loading them onto another truck, train or other means of conveyance immediately (or as close to immediately as possible).
For instance, if your products are shipped to our Limerick warehousing and cold storage centre, they will immediately go to our cross-docking terminal, where they will be loaded onto another truck (or other applicable conveyance) for immediate shipment. If you choose not to utilise cross-docking, your products will be stored within our temperature controlled warehouse space and shipped on order/demand, instead.
How does cross-docking differ from warehousing? Actually, there are several key ways. While both are critical for businesses in the modern world, cross-docking is a vital consideration for businesses in need of “just in time” shipping. This process is capable of delivering many key advantages, including the following:
- Saving Time: Because there is minimal (or no) warehousing involved with cross-docking, your products arrive at their destination as quickly as possible.
- Reducing Costs: Because products are loaded as quickly as possible onto another conveyance, warehousing costs are greatly reduced, allowing you to save money.
- Reduced Risk: The faster your product arrives at its ultimate destination, the less risk it incurs.
- Stronger Relationships: Your customers will appreciate the improved freshness and higher quality of products that are delivered just in time, as opposed to being warehoused for a period of time.
These are some of the most important benefits that we see in cross-docking. We invite you to learn more about this service and how it can benefit not only your products, but your customers and, ultimately, your profitability. However, cross-docking is not necessarily the right solution for all of our customers. We can provide you with a full needs assessment and recommend the right option for your product, your customers and your success.
